Ick mach
Welle!

Ick mach Welle is a music workshop project in Berlin.

Ick mach Welle! (I make waves) is an initiative aimed at helping people with physical or intellectual disabilities to learn how to produce and perform music using software, synthesizers, and other machines.

Our workshop is managed by professional musicians and specialist teachers. Our ultimate aim is to bring our participants to the stage and to promote equality and inclusion for our artists- not just in the context of our workshops but also in the clubs! The project is run by the Berlin-based music label Killekill and Lebenshilfe Berlin gGmbH, Germany’s biggest non-profit organisation helping families with disabled members.

Schrunzel

Schrunzel is a self-taught multimedia artist and poet who casually utilizes Dadaist slogans such as Waschbecken Power (Bassin Power) alongside terms like 'Mein Schprampf', an anti-fascist declaration of war using a self-created word, which also serves as the title for the genre he invented for his own music only: 'Schprampf!' When he is not producing music or editing videos for it, Schrunzel dives deep into seemingly unconnected areas of study, physics and comparative religion, medieval Arabic and Danish poetry.

From this sweeping plethora of interests he draws inspiration for his artistic endeavours, including a science fiction novel, wherein he uses bizarre realism to articulate a critical analysis of today's society, whilst putting to paper and canvas visual expressions of the elements that comprise this
elusive universe of his own creation. Running throughout this diverse range of works lies a central urge for independence. He refuses to buy or to be coerced into buying professional music production software, not for lack of funds, but as a conscious decision to reject the capitalist system. Even though this means going down complicated paths in order to create music, the results of his highly idiosyncratic approach prove the merits of his philosophy.

DJ Locati

Uwe Locati is a rare and exceptional talent. When he got hold of a synthesizer for the first time about 3 years ago, the people around him held their breath as he demonstrated an unbelievable feeling for harmonies, immediately developing a groove. As an experienced clubber, he has a passion for the rave and an instinct for the building of tension, the escalation of the music and everything else that makes a good night.

His move towards becoming a DJ was therefore a natural progression, as the skills that he has exhibited during his first appearances have made abundantly clear. With his ability to select the right track at the right time, combined with tight mixing skills and the awesome charisma of a dancing cannon behind the decks, this man is destined to go a long way.

Bläck Dävil

Werner aka Bläck Dävil is headstrong, independent-minded, and special kind of guy that you won’t easily forget, either as a person or as an artist. His motto could be: to turn shit to gold. Turning broken computers into working ones or discarded turntables into euros. Somehow, Werner keeps going, never standing still, making business deals with half the city to collect everything that he needs to make music.
At the Love Parade in 1998, at the age of 14, somewhere between Siegessäule- the Victory Column and Tiergarten, between "Over the Rainbow", "Computer Stadt" and "How Much Is The Fish", he discovered his love for buzzing bass and fast beats. Ever since then he has been scouring the record shops of Berlin for samples that he can cut-up, manipulate, and destroy. Faster, harder, louder, he samples all genres, be it Folk, Hard Tech, Gabber, Hip-Hop, Metal, Punk, or Rap, to create his own eclectic yet incredibly danceable amalgam of sound: Bravely experimental, highly individual and colourfully put together, somehow Werner makes it all sound like the best party you have ever been to.

Since 2018 Werner has been part of the Ick mach Welle project and has begun performing live on stage. Anyone who has seen and heard Bläck Dävil live knows the unique energy he brings to the dance floor, be it behind a drum machine, a synthesizer or on the microphone. Bläck Dävil is the dervish who makes you laugh and dance.

After his collaboration with the experimental musician MFX in 2020, he went on to collaborate with DJ Normal 4 in 2021 as part of the Warning Showcase at PopKultur Festival, with his first releases coming soon in the very near future.

DJ Marla Roots

In DJ Marla's mixes, various influences from her very personal sound world come together, but mainly Marla plays Rio Funk or Funk Carloca, a style that originated in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro in the 1980s. It is a faster form of hip-hop combined with traditional Brazilian rhythms. The connection to this music came very early through her own passion for playing large percussion instruments. A stroke then led Marla to turn more to mixing music eight years ago. Since then, Marla has made a name for herself in Berlin as a DJ in this genre. The list of gigs in clubs like ://about:blank, Mensch Meier and Yaam speak for her and her sound.

Marla's life is music.

Artist

JP Toulouse

JP's musical output is electronic dance music. His claim to himself and his tracks is to make people happy with them. In his search for inspiration, he does not use mushy, soft pop with sweet melodies in comparison to others. His definition of happiness is different, more blatant. It is based on experiencing techno in its raw form. It has to be hard and fast. He continuously makes new musical sketches to which he gives titles that are personally meaningful to him, thus managing to create a direct link between his music and his life. At the same time, he is always and everywhere on the lookout for new and unusual sounds to incorporate into his tracks.

After producing tracks on his own since 2019, JP found a musical community of like-minded people in the environment of the Berlin Ick Mach Welle project in 2021.

Currently, J P is preparing a contribution to the 2023 Ick Mach Welle compilation by Berlin's Killekill label. This will be his first official release and several will definitely follow!

Wellen.Brecher

Wellen.Brecher is an inclusive project featuring Werner Soyeaux alias Bläck Dävil, Uwe Locati alias DJ Locati, Johannes Kruscha and Dave Senan. With a large hardware setup, consisting of numerous drum machines, groove boxes, synthesizers and a microphone, they live jam on stage creating something that you could maybe call experimental techno: danceable, but certainly not predictable ,and containing a big element of fun and theatre! Their track "Lasst uns feiern" featuring Bläck Dävil on the microphone was released in 2020 on the Krake Festival 10 Year Anniversary Compilation and received widespread praise and plaudits.
