For him, it’s a significant start: “This Is Just The Beginning” is the title of the first hard techno album by Andreas Koszela, alias DJ AnDi. The six-track EP has been released on 23rd January on online music platforms such as Spotify and Bandcamp. Despite a severe physical disability, the 25-year-old has a clear goal: he wants to become a professional DJ and musician – and perhaps one day perform “in front of 5,000 people in Miami”.
The next step is planned to be a “set of 66 of his own tracks”. To this end, his friend, music producer Alex Decoupigny, has launched an online fundraising campaign on GoFundMe. The breakdown is as follows: each track costs 100 euros for “studio hire, mixing, live mastering, songwriting, backing vocalists and sampling sessions”. That brings the total to 6,600 euros. Since October, just under 1,400 euros have been raised.
Andreas Koszela likes hard techno because this subgenre of techno music, with its fast tempo of 140 to 160 beats per minute (BPM), sounds particularly powerful. Unfortunately, however, almost everything comes across as “gloomy and dystopian”. In contrast, he is all about light, joy and strength: “It should be fun, too.”
A native of Poland, he has lived near Charlottenburg Palace since 2012. Musically, he started out with beatboxing, which involves imitating a drum kit or drum machine using the mouth, nose and throat.
DJ AnDi is part of the Ick Mach Welle! project, which was founded by Musicboard Berlin to “enable people with disabilities to access electronic music”. Following various gigs in clubs and at open-air events in Berlin and Brandenburg, Koszela believes he can achieve professional success – something which, sadly, has remained out of reach for him outside the music industry due to his disability
