Ohnmacht - live
Ohnmacht is a new live act from Berlin’s Ick Mach Welle scene — and the name says it all: they counter the vague sense of collective powerlessness that’s currently in the air everywhere with unbridled energy and maximum movement. In their sets, they weave together techno, house, breakbeats and trance into a sound that hits hard and heavy, yet never loses its sense of fun — playful, light-hearted, with a genuine joy of performance at its core. Their aim: to make the noise out there inaudible for one night.
What sets Ohnmacht apart from other live acts is simply the way the sound is constructed. AnDi plays on two CDJs and a mixer — but not as a DJ. He uses looping and filter sweeps, combines this with his own ideas, and assembles new tracks live from rhythm and bass tracks produced in the studio, tracks that
have never existed before. In doing so, he sets the tempo, the dramatic flow and the tension in the set.
Sopht fills in the gaps. Dey plays along live: pads, breakbeats, acid lines, vocal samples — and does so with a keen sense of melody, of the right moment, of exactly what’s missing at that moment. There’s a constant dialogue between the two: offer and response, tension and release.
No two sets sound the same. That’s the point.
