DJ Marla Roots

In DJ Marla's mixes, various influences from her very personal sound world come together, but mainly Marla plays Rio Funk or Funk Carloca, a style that originated in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro in the 1980s.

It is a faster form of hip-hop combined with traditional Brazilian rhythms. The connection to this music came very early through her own passion for playing large percussion instruments. A stroke then led Marla to turn more to mixing music eight years ago. Since then, Marla has made a name for herself in Berlin as a DJ in this genre. The list of gigs in clubs like ://about:blank, Mensch Meier and Yaam speak for her and her sound.

Marla's life is music!
